Kashmir Anatolian Qum Silk Rug
This distinctive Kashmir silk rug is an unique masterpiece, influenced strongly by the floral design rugs of the Qum style from the late 16th century.
The field of this rug is an intricate design of rectangular lattice work, each vertical column being asymmetrically aligned to the next. There are thirteen vertical columns, and 12 unique rectangular panel motifs. There are three unique column patterns made up of a combination of the rectangular motifs that get repeated across the width of the rug. The rectangles have floral arches, rosettes, and various types of mihrabs and panel medallions. Each unique panel motif has a unique frame around it. The inner guard consists of alternating delicate flower patterns connected by thin shoots.
The main border consisted of elongated elegant cartouche motifs alternating with rosettes, a typical characteristic of the ancient Anatolian rugs known as Transylvanian rugs. This rug has a great deal of refinement and is a fine juxtaposition of multiple rug weaving styles as would be expected from a cultural melting pot for art, that is Kashmir.
